What are the correct Instagram Story dimensions?

So you keep hearing that the correct dimensions for Instagram Stories are 1080 x 1920 pixels but after posting your media to Instagram you notice that something is not quite right about the given dimensions.

Instagram is cutting from the top and bottom

So, I made a simple test. I created an image with the size of 1080 x 1920 pixels and divided it into five different parts. At first, I created four blocks with a height of 480 pixels. If you arrange those blocks on top of each other you get the needed height of 1920 pixels. Then I created a separate block with a width of 980 pixels to test if Instagram is cutting anything from the sides.

1080 x 1920 pixels is not completely correct

As you can see from the comparison of my original image and Instagram story post, there are parts of the original image that are missing in my Instagram post.

Instagram is cutting ca 126 pixels

To sum it up, it seems that Instagram is cutting ca 63 pixels from the top and bottom of your original image. But it does not mean that the size of 1080 x 1920 pixels is wrong. You should still make your artwork with the size of 1080 x 1920 pixels but consider the fact that there will be parts that will be excluded from your Instagram post.
